those 488's are pretty powerful for a 4 cylinder engine. Search on here about 3.7L engines, they have a few quirks and issues you need to be aware of, beyond that, they work pretty good. What kind of prop are you running? Those engines respond well to large blade surface props like mercury Mirage. I'd try to get it down a little rpm, the valve train doesn't like 5000

No need to go anywhere...why our fearless leader doesn't own a Wellcraft or even any boat...does CTT own a boat?

I'd say you did well, going from an overwhelming project to cruising the lake for a grand....good job.

Thanks guys, I knew you would say that. A boat is a boat, once you get bitten by the boat the boat bug that's it. I just wish I was a little closer to you boys. This boat is 17.5 and it's a closed cooling system? I could take it out in salt water. It is from Canada, Ontario and has been here all it life. My last boat was 26 ft and was fresh water, anyway it is a hoot and I love it. I have waited 30 years to own a boat. Today will be my 6th straight day on the water... work gets in the way some times,, LOL

Congrats on hitting the water....

BTW certainly not chasing you off but there is another forum that I frequent IBOATS.COM that is also great... much bigger than this one and not focused on one specific boat..... Also a very good chance of finding locals on it.... even up 'thar' in canukville.

Just FYI

I thought the RPM was a little high. It has a spare prop I might try.
