Does sound like fuel pump...assuming ya had the vent open on the aux tank...lol

Given the fact that the primer bulb got hard when the motor was off and got soft when it was running leads me to believe that not only should I replace the fuel filter, water separator and pump, but also pick up a new primer bulb... who knows if it has a bad valve... maybe i'll do the pump last so that I can return it if the issue is fixed with the filters and bulb -Brandon
