If Genie's getting 52 mph from his 200 HO then it can't be all that wrong.
I was just communicating on the etec forum site with a guy who got 43 mph from his old 200 hp carb'd Evinrude, and now 40 mph with his 200 HO !!! I wouldn't be too happy ! I better see at least 8 mph increase in top speed over my old 150 hp Evinrude looper or I definitely WON'T be happy. I'm keeping the faith because Genie get's 52 mph. So my target is at least 50 mph minimum.,,,,,, even if it's down hill, as in Niagra Falls. |

For me performance is a lot more than top speed.
Going from a carbed 225 looper to an injected 150 ETEC I'm getting 7 mph less top speed with 75 less hp, 2" less prop, about 42 lbs less weight, but 3 times the fuel economy. I never top speed her anyway usually running 4100-4400 rpms pushing low to mid 30's. Bring her up to 5000-5100 going back to the ramp for a short burst.

My last boat, a Mako CC, went from a 150 hp looper to 200 DFI. Wow, everything was better, popped up on plane, held slower planning speed, better fuel economy AND 9mph faster top end. Interesting that you only dropped 7 mph from a 225 to 150 hp motor. Sounds like that worked out very well. Speaking of motors...........any day now, I should get my boat back with 200 HO. Any day now.........any day now.......... |
