Have't been to Assateague since 1979 but we caught a mess of blues on medium 7 ft ugly stick/penn 4500ss tossing metal like hopkins and ava17.
Also caught on bait...mullet rigs, pyramid weights. I remember the beach to be really flat and shallow far out. Lots of green head flies. Also, on bay side there are croaker, white perch, seatrout, drum, flounder Here's a pic of me & my friends there in 1979....wow I'm OLD!

I will be down there june 7-11. I will have my 1 year old son so i will not be able to do a lot of fishing. But my inlaws will be there and they will watch him while i fish. I cant wait till the little guy is old enough to fish. Is it better to fish during the day or at night? High tide, low tide? |

Im not a huge beach fishing guy but Ive done my fair share in my life. Ive always like to fish low to incoming flood tide on the beach. It just always makes sense to me that when the water would get a little fatter it would open the bar up a little more. I would fish several staionary rods and always have a spinner with a gotcha plug on it to fish for spanish and blues and a spinner with strip squid to fish the troughs up front for flounder. I will need to call down there and see what the deal is on the beach. You can go down to the boat ramp at the north end of chincoteague and probally do good with drum in that channel.

When I think surf fishin', I think of all the stuff I'll need...cast net, cooler, buckets, knives, rods, rod holders, tackle and on and on...and I don't wanna be totin' all that stuff...couple of years ago I found myself headed to the coast w/no boat(which Pete & Vic brought remedy to) so started thinkin' along the same lines you are now...anyway, this is what I came up with...and didn't spend a dime puttin together...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Right down to the drink holders on front...and turns out I didn't even use it cuz my nephew had left his boat down there for my use...anyway, it was fun puttin this together...
