I like the way yer sealin' those holes!!...why go to all the trouble you have and NOT overkill sealin' the core...gotta be the number 1 cause of transom failure...plus it LOOKS KILLER!!...

I actually have 2 projects in 1 happening on this boat. Im also astetically restoring my 1975 135hp evinrude. The whole lower end is getting new seals and painted. the trim and tilt bracket was sand blasted and shown here is etch primed as of today. the whole motor will shot with epoxy kote and then painted Evinrude White. heres some pics of the process.

You do some GREAT WORK, Kracker!!...just me, but if I's paintin' motor and boat, I'd paint 'em same color instead of two different whites...like I said...just me...I can't wait to see it if it PINK!!...lol...

Nice to have it all coming together at the same time! I'm going to have to wait a season to fix my cowling up. I wish you would go ahead and shoot it with some pearl white so you can tell us how you ended up with great results and save me some reading and sanding. Pearl white with new decals sure would look sharp reflecting those under-gunnel lights

Setting aside the process...I just always thought boat color and motor color when the same looked pretty cool custom...;)

Epic thread, looking over 50 pages worth, I can only fault you for your taste in beer. CL or Nothin for this fat boy. Looking good.. As for fairing with Gelcoat, if you are that close on the glasswork go for it. BUT gel is no where near as easy to sand as fairing putty. Only way to do it and make it shine takes a lotta work. At some point in ?3 coats you have to add the wax to get the gel to cure, graduate your sanding from 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 because you wind up buffing the gel to a shine in the end. Otherwise it will be dull and I don't think going back and adding additional coats of gel after using the wax is advisable. Some other guys add Duratec to the gel I think. Makes it more durable and makes the shine last. if you aren't going to use it as a fairing putty. I got to go back and read Shine's many threads on CSC. He seems to have a grip on it.

thanks for the info Ridge!!
So I am a thrifty research kinda guy. I like finding products that work but at the same time are easy on the wallet. I am not going to be using the interlux perfection product on my boat because they dont have the color I want so ive switched to a urethane enamel. On the outside above water line and inside liner sides Im gonna be using a paint made by benjamin moore. Its called p22 industrial urethane enamel. After comparing specs with Pettitt Easypoxy and interlux Brightside I have found out that ingrediant wise the benjamin moore product is a step above theses "MARINE LABELED" paints because of the increased polyurethane percentage. The cool thing about the benjamin moore product is that it can be tinted by them any color you want!!!! And the really really cool thing about this paint is that its $34.00 dollars a gallon!!!!! It all goes back to my saying "same $hit , different sack". Shes gonna be getting a paint job here real soon fellas!!!! I realize that enamels are not as durable but it nice when the paint is not gonna be in a high traffic area on the sides of the liner and the hull sides. the floor and cap will be taped in and i will be using the alephatic product in those areas of traffic. |
