Some say MARINER was designed for saltwater whereas MERCURY was for freshwater, but in all reality it was like JOHNSON and EVINRUDE. Same engine, different name on the side of it. The tower of powers are good engines and LIGHT(weighed right around 300 pounds or a little less for close to 150HP at the flywheel).

It would be nice, if the engine manufacturers would get weight down on the newer engines. I piloted a friend of mine's 18ft mako one time that had a 150 inline six on it. I did remember the torque and how smooth the engine was.

the motors are marked 115 just below the power head. so they are 115HP right or not? If they are 150HP i might buy them and put one on mine. my 225 is about shot.

they are 115's... the point he was making is that the 150's were available at that weight... same physical size tho

How much would it take to buy em?

Cool

Merc's were marked 1150's... Mariners were marked 115's. I've had both a 90hp and a 115 hp and both engines purred. (I still have the 115) They have a dinstinctive sound, and as I've said before they have awesome torque at the prop.

And for those that don't know, they have no separate head. The head is part of the block. It's all one piece. If you have to service the pistons or rods it's thru the bottom. Wierd, but very efficient and weight saving.

I believe they made a 150 tower of power early on back before the V-6's came out. And being an inline 6 crossflow, they are very torquey. Haven't really messed with them much, but I know they are light and there only real downfall was they don't rev out that high.
