As far as I know they always had the ability to be rehubbed. I've got 2, 3, 4 and 6 cylinders able to be rehubbed.
Is it over revving initially and finally getting on plane or just slow to get on plane?

Around the early 70's OMC went to rubber hubbed props and got away from shear pins, so most any outboard for teh last 30 years over 10HP has a hubbed prop.

Well I guess that's what has screwed me up. My OMC 25hp is pinned and my 2.5 hp Suzuki is pinned. I just didn't think the technology was there until later on.I even had an old 40 HP evinrude that was shear pinned.

Do do the hubs start burning out over time?

Hopefully the hub is the issue. Borrow a prop from a prop shop and verify this. Sometimes when they spin the hub you can see a little melted rubber where it meets metal. You can often tell when you spin one while its happening. After the prop I would check compression just to rule it out. My money would be on dirty carbs if its not the prop hub.

every time i have slipped a hub, it happens all at once. nothing gradual about it. best thing to do is put on another prop see if problem goes away.
i have also lost a power pack on 3 cyl and gives very similar symptoms. idles great, rev's great, put it in gear and bogs down. |
