hurricanes are all different. some wet and no wind, some dry and high winds, wide path, narrow path, etc. a lot of the talk down here last week was "cat 1, i don't even bring the dogs in for those." but these events show us more to the story. this seems to be more along the "andrew" type of a storm.
i really feel for all of ya'll, but like others have said, family is important, possesions can be replaced.
now the fun part of dealing with fema & ins companies.

In 1989 I was with a retail store chain w/stores in the coastal region of SC...it was my job to go there and assess and administrate repairs to our stores following Cat 4 Hurricane Hugo's devastation. Of course along the way, I saw first hand how widespread the high wind damage was and will forever be amazed at the depth and massive power of the ocean's surge as it swept inland...from Charleston to North Myrtle Beach, I thought the same thing Kenny mentioned above...war zone...As I drove inland the 200 or so miles, I continued to be in awe of Hugo's damage as I passed wide swaths of Midland forests leveled to the ground as though some giant had driven his monster truck across them like grass...sustained winds of 90 mph laid a huge oak across my uncle's house in Charlotte, NC, a 5 hour drive from the coast.

My oldest daughter was born that same year; she is 23 now and there is little sign of Hugo's rude visit to our area...the New Jersey coast will be back in much the same way from Sandy, although it is hard to imagine now as there is so much to be done, it's hard to choose a starting point...but stay focused, patient and determined...and thankful your loved ones survived...The NJ coast is too great a place to stay down long...

Last year's Irene did not live up to it's forecast...and I think that played into some level of complacency as Sandy approached...if we take nothing else from this, it must be that we need to take all threats by Mother Nature as though they have the potential to bring damage the size of Sandy...cuz they surely do.

Well guys, I am at the Readington Diner. Needed a break and they have wifi.
Fuel is damn near impossible to get and I am down to my last couple of gallons for my generator.
Had counted on syphoning fuel from my truck and car since I filled them before the storm.
Dumb Arse me who has not had to syphon fuel for thirty years or more did not know they have anti syphon valves in them for over a decade. Can't get it out.

They are saying we may not have power until next Wednesday. I sure hope they are wrong.
Senor Burt is not looking pretty, took me three hours but I got to see it yesterday.
She may be salvageable, but it going to cost a chunk.
Plus there are going to be very few places to get it worked on and even fewer mechanics and glassmen to go around.
I had tears in my eyes with what I saw down along Raritan Bay yesterday.
God help those poor people.
I see that most of us made it through with our health and families intact.
I am very thankful for that.
My computer is running out of battery so I will say A Dios till later.
Will post some photos when we get internet back.
Till then you all take care and comb your hair.
