Default 25" shaft???

Hello. I currently have an 86' Johnson 225. I have seen references about 25" and 30" shafts for outboards. My question is how do you measure or figure out what you have so that when looking for a replacement, you get the same?

A V will have either a 20 or 25 inch transom. Measured from the keel to the top of the shlashwell edge where the motor mounts.

To measure your outboard, measure from the cavitation plate to the bottom of the "hooks" that go over the transom.
