No given reason for the accident at this time. The boat owner did say once he was on the boat that rescued them that he just repowered with a Honda( he said this on open vhf). I speculate maybe rotted transom heavier motor? Who knows? We will probally never find out.

Ever since reading about the boat that sank off cape cod last year and a hand held radio saved them, I now always have a hand held attached to me.

LOL I went on eBay and bought one for the same reason after reading the same story. http://www.ebay.com/itm/280934859760...84.m1497.l2649 $79 is cheap insurance by my way of thinking.

Have you tested it at distances? The one I bought 5-6 years ago doesn't punch very far. Honestly I don't know how much good it will do unless there are boats within sight.

Actually no. I did however did some research into the different radio's and the one I bought was supposed to have performed better than some of the cheaper ones.
