Yesterday i was informed by my brother who borrowed my absolutly mint 1998 cadillac eldorado, ( my pride and joy mind you ) that the head gasket was blown North star engine of course. She only has 70,000 miles on her as i really only have time to drive it on sundays or to an estimate every once in a while. i drive my van 6 days a week. I was kinda waiting for this with all i have read about north star engines over the years . i am sitting on the fence with this one , any one have an idea what this should cost and is it worth repairing.

Generally speaking, it's a pain in the a$$ to get to anything under the hood of a modern day vehicle. That being said, unless there's something extra special about the Northstar engine that I don't know about (and that's very possible) I really can't see anything super difficult about changing a head gasket. If the only damage is just a blown head gasket, and the rest of the engine is ok and not damaged (warped heads, etc.) I'd think that repairing it would be a good idea......especially if it's nearly mint

Like I said, modern day engines are a PITA...Didn't know it had to come out though....Still, what's the alternative? Repair or scrap?
