make sure you don't mount them flush with the bottom, raise them up about 1/2 inch at the transom and make sure the tabs will retract at least another 1 above horizontal when in the upright position. That much tab can drag a boat down speed wise. You could probably sell them and buy a set of 8X12 bennetts and have some cash left over(I don't care for lencos)

Brings up a good reason to go smaller on tabs...SAFETY!!...inadverdently burying the bow at the wrong time could become a real problem...I remember just after installing my 1st tabs, trying to plane up and the bow DIGGIN' like crazy before it dawned on me my tabs were down...I can imagine what oversized would do...

!st time I ever heard of Barnegat Inlet was a documentary show long ago on Coast Guard training...those guys were out there in HUGE ROLLERS, rollin' over 42' boats they were strapped into... I thought BI looked like that all the time til last year...most dangerous thing that weekend were the impatient boaters who thought their time was more important than anybody else's...we got 'em down here too...

Thanks for all the advise. I can probably piece together a set of 12x9 tabs and install them.
Does anyone need a set of lencos for a bigger boat, I will sell them at a good price. I have tabs and control box, no switch, but can get a switch for $85 more. They are off a lift kept boat, used for less than a year. |

Sounds like I may be in for a surprise using the tabs on the V21.
On my previous boat full down tabs didn't cause any problems, other than not being fast for higher speed cruising - normal operations. We'll see. Regarding B I - lots of boaters us it, just have to be more careful with tide / wave action. I'd offer up Shark River Inlet as perhaps the safest on the Jersey coast. Real short, deep, straight and easy. |
