I'll give it a try - mechanic told me it was shot but he couldn't find a brand to fit.

I would probably be searching for a new tech as well then, tach seems too basic to not be able to replace.

anytime i had a tach go bad, it went to zero, erratic readings usually was a symptom of other problems
he should have a shop tach to just hook the wires up and see if the problem goes away |
