People are always surprised when I tell them I have three 2000gph bilge pumps with 1 1/8 smooth wall hose on a 20 ft boat. I tell them if I could find a place for a forth, it would be on there. Make a habit of checking your pumps and alarms when going out, I replace pumps and auto switches all the time, seems like three years is about all they are worth

i have two 1000gph pumps in mine, and the way i run the boat i got an open view of the bilge. i keep an eye on it, i got too much invested and a wife that can barely swim, so i pay attention to how much water i get in the boat. i also keep a manual pump in the boat in case something else goes wrong, such as batterys take a crap, or pumps burn out. a hundred dollar bilge pump is a hell of alot cheaper then sinking your boat. especially if yours isn't self bailing

That is a true story and was on the news here in NY just yesterday. The guys were even filming as they waited in the water.. And YES, things can happen just that quickly. You always need to be ready BEFORE things go south (and my friends think I am anal).
