I also have the EZ-Steer system on my boat and it works like a charm. I love it and wouldn't be without it. I turn the 175 at the helm and the 9.9 follows like a little brother. Also BlueRunner, I bought mine through Cabela's and a bit pricey but IMHO worth every penny if you are trolling with a kicker. Just make sure if you order that you take the measurements as the instructions state on Cabela's website or EZ-Steer website. I made the mistake of "assuming" I had the right connetcting shaft when I actually needed the longer one that was slighty more money of course. I have looked at these, I am going to add a kicker to mine one of these days. I seems pretty straight forward to fabricate for alot less than several hundred dollars. It looks to me like the bracket is connected to each motor with two large hose clamps.
The bracket itself could be made from a piece of steel thin enough to be able to form to the shape of the mid shaft housing, with a piece of flat bar welded to the outside. To tie the two together a piece of threaded rod or solid round stock threaded on each end then use two ball joints, one at each end.

The steering shaft is made of "hollow stainless steel tube" which is actually two pieces inside one another to form a slip fit. If you loo closely at the center of the rod there are two white plastic caps that stick up 90 degrees from each other. Under each of those are the allen caps screws that adjust the tension of the rod. These allen cap screws are set from the factory. They are made to disengage/slip the inner shaft from the outter shaft incase one motor goes one way and one goes the other way so the rod & quick disconnect fittings does not break under such tension. There are also small locator dimples along the inner shaft that the plastic ball on the bottom of the allen cap screw ride in for different distance settings. It all could be home made with some ingenuity and thinking involved I suppose like anything else.

Another thing I got a 6" piece of foam on my bar so it floats if you drop it when trying to put it on out in the water. Its a piece of one of those foam straws kids play with at the pool or lake found one at Walmart. The rest went to 1' long pieces for wraping my hooks I tied up to pull behind bottom bouncers for walleye works great for that as well no mess in the boat.
