My previous boat kinda had the same issue. New transom, no HIN. I had an engraving shop engrave the HIN on aluminum plate and rivited that to transom where it belonged. This was on a Mako(thats how they attatched their HINs), dont know why you couldnt do it with your Wellcraft. It looked factory and I never had any issues when I was checked.

I don't know of a second place to look, to solve the prob I did what Draglink did. Trophy shop did the work. It is the black strip above the transom eye.

Some boats also had them on the inside, on the port side about 3/4 the way from the stern real close to the rub rail.
I'd Dremel the HID back in the location it came from and repaint a little heavy. Don't give them a chance to start thinking your boat has been salvaged, rebuilt or the like, that opens a huge can of worms.

Thanks for the responses, I tried an electric engraver over the weekend on a piece of the old transom and it barely scratched it. May have to go the do it on a plate like Ridgerunner and draglink.
I have an older dremel and will try that on the old transom, what type of bit would you use to write with? |
