Default Aluminum Gas Tank from late 80s V20

I was having some issues with water in my gas tank.....thought I wanted to wanted to replace it.....ran across a good deal on an aluminum tank pulled from an old V20. When I got into it, I realized that my tank had already been pulled and replaced with a plastic tank....and was probably leaking at the sender unit....so ended up not needing the new tank.

If anyone lives near Daphne/Mobile Alabama and needs a good aluminum tank....shoot me an email at [email protected] . The tank looks to be in really good condition....needs to be scraped and repainted. I don't see how I can ship it....but I would be willing work with someone if they are fairly close. Shoot me an email if you are interested and I will get you some pics.

I may be interested in that tank. I'd be putting it into an 82, where it sits under the floor, back against the stern. Mine is original aluminum and I can smell gas in my cuddy... very strong odors right after refueling. My plan was to pull the floors this winter a to replace the tank and build in a cooler in front of it.

Can you get to the fuel fill hose on the top of the tank? Given the vintage of these boats, the fuel fill hose itself could be falling apart or the hose clamps might have worked loose. I'd sure check that before tearing up the floor.

It's the barbed elbow on top of the tank, which the fill hose connects to. It's completely disintegrated on the underside, behind the barbs. Right now it's got foil tape on the outside and JB weld on the inside holding it together. If it's that corroded there, I suspect it has pinholes throughout the entire tank. Either way, I wanna get all that foam out and build a cooler in; probably add a fresh water resorvoir. Gonna get into it this winter regardless.

awthacker, mine did the same thing, the fillhose rotted and the steel wire was touching the al fill spout and ate the bottom out of it. i took a piece of 1 1/4 pvc and made a nipple to insert into the fill spout. them put a new hose on and good to go.

might buy you some time

still for sale....can't get rid of this thing. Was even going to take it to a scrap metal place but they wouldn't take a gas tank. Will give you a great deal if you can come get it!
