UPDATE:

ok, the primer solenoid issue was fixed with the repair kit...

The starting problem was ultimately fixed with a new starter, although new cables helped. I ended up replacing the entire starting system (including the key switch, all cables, batteries and solenoid) but changed the starter last Anyways, she runs like a champ now....
