You can use a variety of methods. Drift bloodworms, swim live eels and small baitfish, cast with pencil poppers and various top water swimming lures, troll with umbrella rigs and single lures. In short, there are lots of ways. I like casting top water lures and drifting bloodworms, but with the cost of worms I'm pretty much a top water lure guy now. I use a fairly stiff Daiwa Beefstick 7' rod matched to a Lew Childre salt water spinning reel and 20 lb test braided Spider Wire line, but I've seen people use just about every combo of rod and reel including fly rods. I don't keep them, to me they are too nice a fish.. so I put them back in to give someone else pleasure at a later date, but they are good eating, tasty fish. They are, after all, bass.

I'm impressed and might need to see that first hand some day. Catching a fish that big feeding on the surface will get anyone hooked on fishing that girl is a life long fisher for sure now. Every once in a while when it 's nice and flat we will throw some flys to top feeding salmon about the only thing that would compare to those beauty's.

Thanks
