So after almost two year the boat is back in the water. Moved the center console forward 2 feet. Fixed and filled hundreds of holes from old snap buttons. Since I moved the console forward I had to replace the steering, and controlls. I replaced the old bait tank with as sit on top style. Replaced the old 1980 Mercury 175 with a 1995 Mercury 200 efi. New Gas tank and new hoses. New battery cables and batteries. New switches Fishfinder/Gps.
I had to fix the transom there was some rot under the aluminum cap that is on top of the transom. All the area under the cap is raw plywood, I removed the rot treated it and fixed with epoxy and glass. Removed 30 years of old wiring removed several old switches the did nothing, wires that went to nothing. Lots and lots of work, but I did it all and now I know where every thing goes and what controlls what. |

Dang that girl sits high in the saddle. Good job. The hard chine isn't even wet. I think mine sits an easy 5" lower than yours at the stern. Now what you gonna do? What will you target with your live bait in Cali?

that turned out great! I moved a couple batteries further forward and some other items on my 18 for a much better ride. I think you will be pleased!

Here's my 2 cents;
based upon yr pic at the pier you find the boat planes very quickly, but that may also be the curse. You also might find; 1. you may have to run the engine more trimmed away from the stern to get the bow back to the norm (up) as it ran with the other motor. 2. the boat may be squirrley because not as much stern (hull) is in the water. Hope this not the case.

I have taken her out several times. It rides real nice with three guys and gear it rode high and dry. That picture there was not much gas in her so she sat a little high. The motor is faster than I need. Just to see with three of us in there I got her up to 45 mph, I got a little scared so I backed off. I know she could have gone faster but why?
Even though I moved everything forward it does not really ride that much different, just more room to fish in the back and a drier ride home when the NW winds are blowing. |
