Joe,
I bought a 5212 Garmin from Get Feet Wet for $2399 for the Bertram.
They have had the 4212 for around $1899 in the pass.

Just trying to give you ideas

They still have the 5212... not sure if the link will work...

Thanks I will check them out!!

I am looking at the 4000 series as they have buttons and not the touch screen.

How are you liking the touch screen?? I have been hearing they are a bit tuff in the cold weather??

Joe,
I haven't installed the touch screen garmin yet. I've only use it in the living room wired to a battery (yes my wife is an understanding person).

Most of the post I've seen have been positive in regards to the touch screen. The way I understand it is the touch screen can be updated in regards to the function of each touch on the screen with software. A unit with fixed buttons can not do this. Once a button is wired to perform it functions that is it and it can't be changed by software.
Just something to think about with the way technology moves forward.

Your comment about not working in colder weather is a very real possiblity. I can't comment on that just yet.

April seems so far way! I've had enough winter already!!

Get Feet Wet has a 3206 that is $699. It's an older unit but will network and it will take a radar overlay and sonar.

the only problem i have heard about on the touchscreens is the heat the generate. might be a factor if you flushmount, but on a bracket, not an issue.

I can tell you that the heat sink on the back of the 5212 is pretty large.
