Default 1999 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro

I'm going on Saturday to look at a 1999 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro. the owner estimates the motor to have approx 500 hours. It shows some corrosion on the motor bracket consistent with a slip kept boat. Its a 99' Aquapsort 215 DC with a Galvanized roller trailer of the same vintage. I can pick up the package for $8500 which I think is a good deal. The owner wasnt really looking to sell till I contacted him so I don't think he has anything to hide. the boat is shrink wrapped and winterized so I'll have to uncover it to run it. Is there anything in particular with this motor to look out for other than the basics, Compression, Overheating, Lower Unit condition?

It's a good engine, but it's problem area can't be seen without pulling the heads off. I know down here in FL, the 93+ closed deck blocks are known for corroding and rotting out between the head gasket and block surface if they are not thoroughly flushed after each use. Other than that they are great engines.

Ferm, thanks for the comeback. Its funny you mention corrosion on the heads. I went to look at a Aquasport 215 in Norfolk, Va (12 hour round trip) and it had excessive corrosion on one side of the head, Johnson 225. I decided not to buy it. the one I'm going to look at tomorrow has always been maintained but slip kept. So I doubt he flushed the motor after each trip.

Thirsty from what I've heard but can run 2,000 hrs if you're lucky.

The 200 and 225 I believe was more prone to blowing than the 150 from that year.

Check with a long time Evinrude dealer and ask about it.

wrong the 200 / 225 was a better motor than those 150 / 175 were just as ferm said that was the only issue but those are rock solid great motors
