I've had to resort to a gear puller 5 out of 6 times when removing a steering wheel. The one time I didn't I took the nut completely off and ended up in the engine well.
They can be a real booger to remove.

I'm with SpareParts on this one... treat it just like the flywheel on an outboard... apply upward pressure and give the center shaft a wack with a brass hammer.. Pops almost every tapered item off on the first shot.

I used my linemans on the key, which is what was preventing me from getting the steering off of the console. I wouldn't have thought that thing came out of the shaft if you hadn't said. Thanks Skools.

not a problem glad you got it. those last 2 pics helped me see that. the other guys didn't notice you have the hard part done the wheel was off lol. keep up the good work.
