This extended transom is made of fiberglass....it does give you considerable more room inside the boat but is also noted for deadening the outboard noise with the removable splash board in front. I conducted a lil experiment a while back by removing this board and operating at wot and then re inserting it back.....there is a very big difference....

Another plus of the V-21 is the self bailing design......but I really love the 70 gallon midship poly tank.....much better center of gravity than the twin above deck saddle tanks which were only 20 gallons each on my former 74 V-20.......But..........I do miss that hardtop!!

Do you know if the transoms on the 21s are as prone to rot as the 20s?

I don't think as much......seems like all the V's from about late 80's to present day (if they still made em)do not have that issue as much as their predecessors....And to tell you the truth I don't know whether or knot that extension is all glass or a combination...I'll have to check on that one....: ) Overall I would say the V-21 is an update on a unbeatable hull design.....they knew enough not to mess with something that has worked for decades (hull). Instead, they made much needed improvements within the hull...I've owned both boats a 1974 V-20 & my current 1996 V-21 (THANK YOU REEL!)and I can tell you the V-21 gives you that classic ride (dry windshield) and a little more on the inside hull. YUP!! Sea trial tomorrow with my only real concern being that the battery box and oil tank compartments are holding a couple inches of water.

I am hoping to sign on it Wednesday after my boat yard looks over the hull and engine for any big issues.

That would be rain/washdown water from the rod holders...they are suppose to drain from plastic fittings on each end of the rod box through plastic tubing attached to the bottom of the rod holder & onto the deck. The plastic drain tubes fall off of the rod holders and allow this water to run into these areas. Easy fix really......check for the tubes broken or pulled loose from the rod holder.....that's probably the problem. I replaced all four fittings,hoses & vinyl adapters on my 21...been dry ever since...I also keep those access doors open all the time to keep a lil air circulating, but..... I am fortunate enough to have a dry place to store it too. If/when you buy it you'll have to post some pics....best of luck! Dave
