Well, possessed is not so bad when you think about it... it's better than re-possesssed anyday.

Impeller is definitely gone ran it in a tub, no water exiting. Is this a DIY project?

Yes but there are a couple of little tricks to make it go smoother.
Last Mercruiser I fooled with was over 20 years ago and it was a 140. Seemed like you needed to have the foot engaged in reverse and something else I can't remember. Let one of the other guys post suggestions to give you step by step info and what to do to make it easier. Sorry I'm no more help than that.

Get either the Seloc or the Clymer manual for your engine model and year... then follow the instructions contained within step by step. It's really not a hard job, and one that you should know anyways.. replacing the impeller at the start of the yearly boating season is actually a pretty good form of insurance against overheating and burning out your engine.

Decided to go ahead and replace the whole pump took about an hour and a half. Not too bad and hey I learned something too!

Poltergeist? Yeah, maybe,
...but I wonder whether it's a pesky neighbor or a kid pulling a prank. Got any enemies? I'll admit I don't know enough about spontaneous starting. It's enough of an effort to get the thing to start when I WANT it to start, let along something interesting like you've got. Still, I was pondering replacing the impeller for regular maintenance, and it's good to have a handle on how little time it takes. Thanks!
