Thanks for all the input guys.

It is an EFI, & the plan was to use the controls from my 200 offshore that are on the boat.

Didn't ask about a warranty, I'll add that to the list.

I was planning to go to a 150, rarely need all the power I have now & could use some more range, I like to take it out to the blue water.

I'm torn between trying to get the price down or just bringing it home starting the search, problem is snapper season starts next week & because of the oil spill I haven't been fishing in a LONG time.

Thanks again,

Doug

$6K for an 05 200 EFI MERC sounds REALLY high to me. Down here engines tend to go for a premium(boats go for cheap though, go figure), and I would expect an engine like that one to go for $4K tops. I've seen OPTIS with warranty on em still go for $6K. I'm a cheap skate, but I persoanally would head over to screamandfly and look for a good sweetwater engine thats never seen the salt before for that kind of money. I bought a 95 XRI 150 4 years ago for $2600 with a boat and trailer from a member over there. And this was a freshwater engine with no rust or corrosion anywhere on it.

Thanks again for the input,

I'm looking around at alternatives a bit more before I decide, boat still at the shop.

Looks like we're likely to have tropical weather here when snapper season opens anyway.

I found a 2008 Yammie 150 nearby on Craigs list:

http://gulfport.craigslist.org/boa/1902064039.html

This is more what I've been looking for a 150 instead of the 200 so better fuel economy and a good bit lighter, right?

My son in law has the 2002 version of this & I've been coveting it for years

I've been working up until tonight so I haven't seen it yet, I asked if it was a 25: shaft (It looked like it but the boat looked like it would use a 20".

Can y'all tell by looking? It is a normal 2 stroke & not the HPDI, right?

Anybody have an idea of what the controls will cost me, & how much to expect for an install (may do it myself).

Thanks,

Doug

That YAMAHA appears to be one of the last 150 carbed engines that YAMAHA made. Yes that engine is legendary my anybodys standards as YAMAHA made that engine with only minor upgrades for about 20 years. It is also a 25" shaft for the one in the ad. If it checks out good I would be all over that one, and I don't even like YAMAHAS.

Thanks Ferm,

It seems like a good deal, maybe too good to be true, so I'll be careful.

Why don't you like yammies?

I've run Mercs for a lifetime (I'm a park ranger & have worked the coast my whole life) Thi slast one 200 offshore has been enough trouble that I'm ready for a change.

I'd have that '08 yamaha checked out by a yamaha or trusted mechanic and find out if the price includes the controls and gauges. Also find out why he's selling. People usually don't take perfectly good working outboards off and sell them without a reason. If it checks out i'd buy it. Check with Willy, Blue Runner, Spareparts, and Whatknot, they've all had experience with those engines.

I just don't prefer YAMAHAS is all. Nothing against em as they tend to be some good engines. I prefer made in the USA if I can find it myself. But also I've noticed that YAMAHAS tend to be some of the slower engines in there HP class.

Just food for thought lately I've seen a lot of people in trouble financially as are most of us But they are selling what ever they can off their boats , cars , trucks you name it before it is repossessed. So just be careful he can sign he's life away to you but if he does not own the boat you would in seance being receiving stolen property and they will take it. At that point the only legal way to get you money back is though court and that's a joke all in it self.

Right on the mounting bracket of Yamaha's there is a build date, this will tell you what you have. Mine is DEC04
