Thanks for the answers.
This verifies my plan, have the piece we saved welded on, I do all the clean up work, i.e. grinding and painting, then cover with a skeg guard. Chum, that is step two, because the very tip of the skeg was lost. Ridge, that is good news and I hope that the shop I use knows of a good welder. They should as it is in Lewes, De., I am sure this will not be the first time they have seen this.

They can be welded... I am a welder and have done many for a local boat shop. The material looks poor, however it TIG welds pretty well.. I have repaired them with 6061, 5052, 3003 aluminum with NO problems.. good luck. Ship it to me and i can fix for you if you like!
