I enjoyed the way he wrote it, when a Pulitzer Prize winner writes you sometimes have to slow down, at least I do sometimes. The command of the English language is something I have always admired and with all the reading I do I have noticed some use it to flower a point ad nauseum, some use it to cement it. This is one of the latter.

I'm just on a different page. I did understand what he was saying, just had to read it again, very slowly (and look up a word
 ). I have a history of coworkers that "try to master" the English language and come off sounding like pompous idiots. I work in a technical\engineering environment and it irritates me when these people write technical papers and try to show off their "master of the English language" by adding superfluous text rather than trying to make the document understandable. Sometimes more is less. Obviously the author is well respected, and not superfluous, I just don't "get into it". Sorry for sounding like I was discrediting your post. Didn't mean to.
