Those are my grounds too RW, great pics. Curious where in the Navesink you are tubing, do you go way up river from the bridge?
You are right that is a long run from the ramp you are using, even more so from Seacaucus.
We all got to hook up and fish in a few weeks when the stripers start returning in numbers. Fluke are pretty spotty right now, dozens of shorts before a keeper comes in. Sea Bass are coming over the rail though.
When you go up that river you go right by my marina, Twin Lights, right next door to the Wind and Sea Resturant.

Oh and though I have not used it there is a ramp right on the Navesink, public I believe. You might want to check that out.

Very nice RW! I like that helm seat, looks comfy. Great pics....dog looks undecided on his happiness factor. Does he swim willingly? My dog's legs are too short so she has a hard time keeping her head above water. She likes to get about 10" deep on the shore to cool off but she's not much on the swimming thing.

I took the family tubing yesterday as well. They managed to get me out on it too. I hung on for maybe a minute before they threw me off at 30 mph....ouch! While the boat was going about 5 mph my youngest daughter was pulling on the rope after I fell off....got the rope around her leg and managed to get a nice little rope burn. It didn't stop her from getting back out there though.

Good to be back out on the water though. Plus I got to get all of the salt out of my engine. Flushed it on the quick connect after the trip but always good to get it out in fresh H20 after the salt.

Actually that first pic tubing is at the end of the day up in the Raritan river upstream from Sayreville ramp.

Willy, you're correct, it's a long run from Seacacus, but really not as bad as you'd think. The actual distance to the mouth of the Hudson from the launch ramp is just about 22 1/2 miles.. But there are no tolls, no launch ramp fees, no traffic on the parkway, no waiting in line to launch, and no police waiting for you to make a mistake and give you a $463 ticket for speeding. All in all it's a very pleasant run.. Nice flat wide river run that takes about 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour, and during that time we rig the rods and downriggers etc., so when we do arrive everything is set to go. Plus, like I said before, as a bonus, it washes the salt out of the engine at the end of the day. It takes me about an hour and a half to drive to Atlantic Highlands and launch from there, and twice that time at night to drive home on the Parkway due to traffic. It takes me 15 minutes to drive to Seacacus and an hour on the outside to get to Sandy Hook Channel. It's true I burn more gas, but I avoid tolls and launch fees. While it's not quite a wash, the ability to avoid the other things is worth the extra cost of gas to me.

Thats cool, everyone likes something different, thats why they made blondes, brunettes and redheads.
I used to launch out of Keyport, was berthed there to for two seasons. But it was always faster for me to go down 36 and have the boat right at my fishing grounds.
Plus I have found some nice spots outside that produce and I run to the shrewsbury rocks frequently as that is the best fishing on the Jersey Coast. So all in from even Keyport it was too long of a run. Now i round the Hook and head offshore witha 30 - 45 minute run. Much better, especially if the sea are churning which seems to be most of the time this season.

I used to have slip #4 out of Leonardo State marina... it was great .. 2 miles run past the pier, then straight across the bay and out false hook channel towards whatever fishing grounds we were going to. I've always loved fishing Shrewsbury rocks.. much better than the mud hole or the tin can grounds..(which are my other two favorite places).. You're right, it's a run for sure.. but going down river or up river is nice and flat and I can really let it all hang out.. 40-50 depending on river traffic and location.. it's really a fun ride... plus, up by the power station near Secaucus there's great Striper fishing.. tons of shorts, but fun to catch, and occasionally a real cow that will bend your rod and your arms...

(oh, and make mine a Redhead please... God I'm a sucker for red hair, green eyes and freckles..)
