gasket is the way to go, there are not many threads in the tank itself, not much for the sealant to stick to. The cut threads int eh tank are generally a little sloopy as well.

Thanks, Ihaven't put the tanks in yet, but the manufacturerer of the units ( Teleflex ) call for the sealant in their directions. There is a 3/16" thick rubber gasket with the kit, so I guess their just being over cautious asking you to do both sealant and gasket. Thanks
