when you say "clean carbs" how are you doing it? Now that you have fresh gas in the tank you really need to remove,disassemble,clean,reassemble and reinstall the carbs. Before you connect the fuel line to the carbs flush out the fuel lines and change all the fuel filters. After that you should be ok.

Thanks for the input. I have only drained the bowls onthe carbs and sprayed everything out with carb cleaner. I dont know if i could handle a rebuild

A rebuild really isn't that hard. Just like going on a road trip, you need to have a map in order to get to where you want to go. Get a shop manual for your engine. It gives you detailed steps of what to do and how to do it. Not a Sealoc or a Clymer (although they are very good).. a manual from the company that made your engine. You can find them on eBAy for less than $10 as a CD-Rom.. When you get the disk simply print out the section you need so you have it by your side as you do the job. Then follow the steps they tell you in the book.

In the case of a carb rebuild you'll need some basic tools, a compressor or some compressed air in a can (computer dusters work well) a syringe to squirt cleaner into tiny holes and passageways, and a rebuild kit for each carb. You can get the kits from almost any marina that services your engine. There are both OEM and Sierra kits available. Sierra kits are usually cheaper by a few dollars. Both are good.

Really, the only thing you need to be concerned about is any plastic parts that are on your carb(s). It used to be the way you cleaned a carb was to throw it in a bucket of cleaner overnight and then blow it out with compressed air... but now with the plastic parts on them you cannot do that because the cleaner will attack the plastic. You need to find a plastic safe cleaner. The best thing to clean the plastic with is 100% denatured alcohol. You can still use carb cleaner on any metal, just be careful around the plastic.

That, and a few gaskets and "O" rings and you're good to go. It's easy really. (honest it is) Just take your time and go step by step. Do one carb per night, plus one night to remove the carbs and one night to reinstall and you'll be done in 5 days. The only thing you need to be very careful about is the jets.. use the right size screwdriver so you don't damage them when you remove and install them.

Thanks, I am tempted to give it a shot, just dont want to mess up any of the adjustments and have it run horrible after done

If you are removing anything such as idle adjustment screws just count the turns and write them down so you can get it back together and not mess up any adjustments. Hopefully the carb rebuild solves your problem.

To add to that.... Screw the adjustment screws IN (clockwise until they just gently touch bottom) counting the turns as you go,(make note of any fractional turn 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, etc.) then remove them by screwing them counterclockwise. When you put them back in, again screw them all the way in until they touch bottom, then back them out the number of turns you counted. By touching bottom you eliminate all chances of being off when you start the screw, because the bottom is static.. (it's always in the same place)...so the backed out turns will be exact.

Another good hint it to take some up close pics of the carbs before you touch anything...and as you're taking things apart...that way if you forget how something went together you can refer to the pics to see where things go.
