jack plate on yamaha 150 and 20' center console fisherman

tsubaki did you fill the notch on your boat? I've been looking to install a cmc jackplate but i've noticed that my steering system may get in the way and bind if i move the motor back and up with the jackplate. If i fill in the notch i think it would be better and also raise the motor out of the saltwater while sitting in the slip. my reason for raising was to reduce corrosion on my 150 yamaha. How did you fill in the notch?
