So from your post I assume you either fish alone or either the wife or friends do not know how to help. The best thing I ever did was to teach the wife how to back up the trailer and she is better then most guys. I back down she get into truck I hop into boat get it started and she backs up an taps the breaks so I slide off. When we return she goes and gets the truck and backs it down until I tell her to stop. She gets out and points either way to help line me up on the trailer. I found if you nose it in some then allow the rollers to line it up some before hitting the gas. I slowly give it the gas as my wife points either way then when I get close she holds her hands apart showing how much further I need to go. When I hit the stop she throws on the hook and I jump down and give it a crank or 2 and off we go.

Still, you must be a patient man. I have tried that but the Wife never got the hang of it. Heck, who am I kidding, she could not stand my bi---ing at her! I have always thought that a slick husband and wife launching/retrieving team is very cool!

What I find to be a complete PITA is that my aluminum tandem axle trailer has enough bouyancy that it floats. The floating trailer makes it real hard to tell how deep you are going and the current can also play hell. I think I can remedy the float with some PVC pipe and Lead. |

Power on 4 me too, but if I get the trailer at just the right depth, it doesn't take much to get there.
Then I jump to the dock or climb down the tire like the other guys. My wife is very good at backing straight for about 20 feet, so I get it lined up and it works great when she is there.

Yes, lately it has been just me and my dog. The dog loves fishing, where the wife gets bored and doesn't want to stay out long. The first time the wife said "why don't you just go out without me", I was jumping for joy inside and said "well...OK".
I fish alone, yea, with nobody else. However, next spring and summer I will bring friends at times and will also have to bring relatives. I should probably teach the wife how to back the trailer down...

You know when I fish alone, I just wanna be by myself. The beginnings of a good George Thorogood Spoof. Trust me, keep that poker face on. Never lead on that you may have more fun fishing than you would have with the wife or child. It would give her more leverage, as if the women needed more leverage... During the holiday weekend I plan to go on one of those marathon see you tomorrow blood and guts kind of trips, alone if need be. The girls just don't have any desire to fish that hard so they will end up at the mall for black Friday..One of life's simple pleasures

How about a mall at the end of a boat dock, take wife out fishing, drop her at boat dock mall, pick her up when finished fishing?
Maybe the fishing trip would cost more than planned? Anyway, love to just go riding, pull up to dock at restaurant, store, shop, etc, and just have fun.. Any help at dock is good, sometimes I run it up sometimes not, depending on the circumstances at the time.. |
