I have the 4.8 in my truck, it now has 165,000 miles with zero problems! But they do have that famous gm piston slap on cold mornings, Just let run for a min and she is good to go. I get 14 mpg every were i go, and I tow my OX all over as well as my 30' camper

SO far they have a great track record. Good power for there size, and pretty good milage. It don't have alot of bottem end grunt to it, but she runs good once they get some RPM's built up.

I would agree with that, I do rev it up pretty good at the boat ramp to get her moving.

Try and find a 5.3L or one of the light duty HO 6.0L engines then. The 6.0L is a strong running engine for it's size, and more than decent on fuel. Most all of the new style GM engines in a small block turn up some RPM's though.

i'm just thinking of fuel mileage and driveability seeing how it will be in my 54 Chevy Truck street rod, with auto trans, the current rear end is a 12 bolt with a high gear @ 3:31's. but the only thing 54 is the title and body since i've mounted it on a 74 chevy short bed chassie.

the 74 chassie had a 350 in it, are the newer motors mounts the same as the older V8's? i would put the 4 bolt 350 back in but i built it into a monster small block and it was sold back yrs ago in my 69 camaro, back in my 20's lol sold it to buy my beach house. hated to and i also sold my 62 chevy truck at the same time for the beach place.

I'm 99% certain that all of the 99+ LS style engines use different mounting locations from the earlier small blocks. bellhousing is the same, but I'm pretty sure they moved the engine mount pads back some on the sides more to a middle position.

If you could find one of these complete, you would be in business.

Even one of these would be dam nice for a street rod.
