Oh, and what is the difference in the new cables and the old style? Have seen both and wasn't sure which I needed.

The old style donot come with ends on them, whereas the new style are made to the cables.
I've just replaced with the type that was on the motor and never thought if the two were possibly interchangeable. It does appear that you can replace the old style with the new style but I don't know if that is the case. Hopefully Skools or Ferm can clear this up.

Thanks for the quick response. I replaced the cable today and my problem seems to be in the actual shifting box itself. I have to push it very far forward before I get any movement in the cable at all. Any ideas or things to look for? Thanks.

The two cables work together with each other.
First inch or so of movement engages the gear mechanism on one and slightly advances the fuel on the other, the last half of the full movement greatly advances the fuel portion.
