use micro ballons with the resin you were using to make a filler. mix the resin first with hardner then add micro ballons till you have a peanut butter like mix then use with bondo paddle and let dry then sand smooth may require 2 or 3 coats but it will give you the best results. don't use marine tex it will cause issues later with your patch.
