MJ - It's my pleasure to help out . . . I'm glad that we could work right in the garage. Not sure what to do to prevent those fouling plugs in the future . . . They were all black and oily so perhaps a healthier mix of oil and gas or adding the oil before you pump. Anyhoo . . . it was neat to see 2 bad plug wires arching on the block at night. I think you're good to go for a while . . . catch some damn flukes would yah!! I would give my left nut for my fluke permit back and a few days off to fish the secret spots. I'm so looking forward to Commercial Bass Season . . . night time fishing is going to be my only chance to get'm this year.

Hey you didn't tell me about the rod going overboard . . . so sorry . . . that was a sweet rod too.

Bigshrimpin/MJ...long ago on my old gas-suckin' Rude, my outboard tech told me the following; when idling/trolling, tilt the motor a little forward so the "top" of the cylinders are up instead of down...he went on to say(as we all know), 2 strokers never burn ALL the oil in the cylinder on firing...tilting the motor up a bit reduces the amount of unburned oil building up in the "top" of the cylinder (which is where the spark-plug is) thus reducing fouled plugs.

After he told me that, I started tilting the old Rude up as he suggested and never was bothered w/fouled plugs again...have you guys ever heard this from anywhere else?...

NGK-BUH8's

They are the surface gap plugs. Plugs were black and wet. Compression in the motor is 125 - 130psi in all 6. I'm going to replace them (or have MJ replace them) and then see what happens to the new plugs after a few weeks.

Ok, so I have to ask. As someone who actually flukes for money. What is your preferred rod (weight and length)?

Sorry to here about the one over the side! I've done it too, not recently though (knock on wood!!!!).

I will get the plugs tomorrow if I can find some? They are hard to find around here, and I hate to pay the boat yard price!

The rod wasn't my first and I hope it will be the last! But it was a made by kme rod 8 years ago nd just redone this winter. Man that rod was great and had 1000's of fish caught on it.

The rod was a St Croix e glass 70MBK 15-30# 7' +blank that is no longer made by them any more, I have another that I have with me all the time so I was still ble to fish. I also still have a blank never built that I will now get built, but it will be the last one.

CB gave me a rod over the winter that should be a good Fluke rod I will try it out this week coming.
But I am getting low on reels, and I have been trying to upgrade a little at a time. I have some Penns that have been great but re getting pretty worn as some are as old as the 60's!!

Abu Garcia 5500 or 6500 reels with a real soft tip casting rod. The rod tip should be soft enough to feel a fluke fart on the end of the line without him feeling the rod tip. You also want something that can handle 2 - 4 oz sinkers and allow you to set the hook. I've found plenty of cheap $20 - $30 walmart rods that fit the bill well!! I also have a few 10 year old 7ft black fiberglass Penn Powersticks are pretty good I think they are the Medium Light or Light versions of the rods. With the 6500 series abus the rods also double as great chunking rods for bass . . . up to 25 - 30 lbs.
