Yep, the 1/2 inch bolts....they were the ones that came with the motor and looked like they had been broken a while.

I was very lucky the bottom ones held....I'm going to replace them for good measure too.

Here's a few pics.

While we were out trolling for Spanish, the planer on my sons side popped and he reeled in to find we had caught a live sand dollar. It hooked right in one of the slots, I bet if you tried for a million years you couldn't do that on purpose.

My Dad and son hard at trolling.

While I was dragging the kids around Sunday afternoon, the Nina and Pinta came by, don't know where the Santa Maria was.

Monday morning we went to the "sandy part of the beach" as my littlest one used to say.

WOW that is frightening! I guess the steering loosened up after replacing the bolts huh.

Very nice. I'll try to check out the pix later away from work. Nice report!

Yeah, steering was fine after replacing the bolts......I think the steering rod actually helped save the thing from falling off.

Randleman,
Good things happen to good people like yourself.
"Up there" is a Boss who can hold even the heaviest of all outboards, and more, and it`s no coincidence, you are blessed, by a BEAUTIFULL Family and by a GREAT weekend after that close call with loosing that powerplant to the mighty Blue, but you deserve good things, and this was just a moment to believe that being good is always worth it.
Congrats on a beautifull Family, a loving Dad/Grampa, and a great Boat.
