that could not have been said any better than with a picture. i wonder why the congressmen are pushing for a bail out instead of a corprate restructure in bankruptcy courts, etc. i think i know the answer.

Is it that the dems are supposed to be "pro-labor" and that the bankruptcy/restructure would be an end to the UAW and perhaps the beginning of profitability in American cars?

Definitely the relationship is a factor - one of several. Another is lawmakers' lust for power. They would like to be "in control" of one of our major industries and have the Big Three beholden to them. And at no cost to them, because remember it's the taxpayers footing the bill. And lawmakers want to be able to dictate what sort of automobiles the Big Three will produce (green), which will have to be sold at a loss because consumers aren't really keen on them at the moment with relatively cheap gas prices, which will push the Big Three into even poorer financial condition. They can't run the country, they sure as hell can't oversee Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, so what makes them feel they're qualified to oversee the auto industry? The audacity of it all.

well lets see how many of you I upset with this one......
THE UAW (union) is to blame. They are making $30 an hour, and it costs the companies $69 an hour when you factor in health care and retirement.....tooo much money......

thats exactaly what im talking about. mechanics do not make that much money and they have to diagnose/take apart/reinstall. two more steps that the workers on the line. and for 2/3's less pay.

I say the big 3 are getting what they deserve. lets go back and remember something. The big 3 and the Gov. squeezed out and shut down the following. Tucker, Pierce Arrow, Studebaker, Packard, and Hudson. There's others but these are ones better known. Especially what they did to Tucker.
