Thanks fellas, it wasn't a half bad birthday either. I figured my birthday was as good as excuse as any to go feeshin, so I loaded up the DODGE and the HYDRA-SPORTS and went. Mr weatherman was wrong AGAIN, it was ALOT worse than he forecasted at 7 this morning. So I decided to work the shallows for my targets, unfortunately the water isn't cold enough yet to have driven the big groupoer in. Must have caught 30 shorts, many of them only short by a 1/4"
. Plan B went into effect. I started chumming with cut sardines and tied on long shank hook and figured I could catch a few SPANISH MACKS. The clouds never burned off today so my trusted spoons were out of the question. I get a good slick goin out there and throw out my first one and BAM, something took me straight into the rocks. So I upgraded my tackle from 12 to my 17 lb reel, and brought up a nice MANGROVE SNAPPER. I ended up getting 4 keepers before the grunts moved in, and I got 2 more before I got tired of catching 4 grunts to one snapper.
I didn't get the ones I was after, but MANGROVE SNAPPER is still GOOD EATING. At least I didn't get skunked on my birthday.
