Only if its brighter than the sun.
I have used lights in freshwater with much success, haven't tried it in brine.

just got back from fishin with'em. Here are some pics. My buddy and I went out of Montauk and did an over nighter at the dip bout 105miles out. Flat calm and gorgeous. I would invest in lights if I could afford it. Definetely saw more action then in the past without. Squid everywhere, we were catching them with a net they were so thick. We caught a bunch of tuna while listenin to everyone squaking about no fish.

Here are some pics. We were on a 2006 28' Hydra Sport with twin 225 Yamas. This boat is rigged to the gills. The photos do not do the lights justice, at night they appeared to throw light approximately 40'-50'.

Not sure if you guys frequent THT much but there is a guy on there who makes his own LED underwater lights he sells for a ton cheaper than any of the big companies. I was going to pick up a pair when I was in FL but the water up here is not as nice for the lights. His website has more details and take a look over at www.thehulltruth.com for more pics/info.
