loop charged 2 stroke vs. cross flow 2 stroke. it describes the path of the intake charge into the combustion chamber. It either flows accross or it loops around. What makes it significant is cross flows generally idle better and make more torgue at the expense of burning more fuel and making more emmisions than loop charged which generally make more hp and are more fuel efficient than a cross flow of the same displacement. Most of the modern 2 stroke engines( less than 10 years old, are cross flow). Direct fuel injection throws a comlpetely different equation into it, but are usually based on a loop charge foundation
