Sure does sound like the prop to me especially that part about the RPM's shooting up. I know a good green jello diver that could probably swap that prop in a few seconds blindfolded with one hand tied behind his back...

trim the drive up and sit on the transom, unless you are real short, you should be able to put your foot on teh prop and try to spin it

Happened to me last year. Had spun the hub on the prop..Cost was about $70 for repair of prop.
