Default removing sea drive .... any tips???

getting around to removing the expired sea drive off my '85 center console.

for those who have done this, are there any tips you can provide?

i have messed with my share of cars, but this is my first boat project .. i would like to think i am pretty mechanically inclined

the power head had been removed prior to me getting the boat .. at least that will be some weight removed.

i also need to drain the tank of some old gas.

how does that steering cable come off the motor??? looked at i quick, but did not look obvious to me.

treat me like a 5th grader starting from step one.. i will not be offended. :)

what should i leave, what should i discard? looks like shift/throttle cable has been disconnected and also some battery cables off the power head.

thanks in advance.

Brad

Not that much to it. You have the cables that pass through the SEA-DRIVE inside the boat, and there should be a remote box for the trim and tilt. A large red plug that just unplugs for the engine wiring. And then the 6 1/2" bolts that hold it on to the transom. The steering cable needs to be removed from the steering arm, and then the large nut on the starboard side comes loose and slides out. Make certain to seal the wood up as soon as you remove the sea-drive, you don't the transom getting wet at this point in the game and ruining your whole project.

A second pair of hands and a hoist. Depending on the motor you will use and how far the setback is on your bracket will determine whether or not you can reuse the throttle and shifter cables. You'll probably have to buy a baystar or seastar steering cylinder to keep the hydraulic steering and you'll probably need a new hose for it...

Here are some pics of what it will look like once it's removed:

Have fun man...
