that time of year we get em real close to the beach. several years before, we were just a bit further out and i lost a monster fluke to another little mako, this one a little bigger.
the fluke was probably an eight, ten pounder and this snotty little mako, about 40 - 50 pounds nails it right by the boat while my pop is grabbing the net. i tell him "forget the net". he goes "lose the fish?" i go "well, most of it". we laughed about that one for a while cause that was the summer when we never took home anything smaller than 6 pounds.
