Exclamation

My dog ate a bunch of rawhide one time and blew up like a tick.

The vet said that the rawhide stays in the stomach a long time and doesn't digest, it rots giving off gas and making your dog blow up.

Oh, and thats not a real dog.

I agree on the NO RAWHIDE thing. I know the dogs love it (my Brittany spaniel Henry sure does), but everything I read is that they can really bind up the digestive systems to the point of being deadly. If you do not have a fence and want to contain the new guy to the yard, I would highly recommend one of the electric fence deals. They are not all that expensive, it is really easy and quick to train the dog, and does an excellent job of keeping them in the yard. Heck, ours has gotten so used to his boundaries that you can put him out in the yard without the "shock collar" and he still stays at home.

I bet before you know it we will be seeing pics posted of you and Dale out feeshin!

Congrats on the new addition, We too recently were adopted by a new puppy. She was born on christmas day and ended up at the shelter along with her brothers and sisters. The wifey was looking for a yorkie or some other small breed, till she laid eyes on "Ladybug" and fell in love with her.

MJ, great dogs, your gonna really enjoy him , they bond very well to the family. we adapted one that was pound bound(she is about 6 years old).one thing, for their size, they do need a lot of water, & they get cold real quick.

Nice dog MJ. I'm sure we are going to be hearing alot more about your new buddy. I can see the reports coming in from this year's fluke season:

Got my new buddy last year and I love my pound dog. She is a great car rider and very very potty trained. One thing I learned is when you take them outside go to the same spot and they will get used to that being their bathroom.

I've been able to teach my pound dog:

sit
howdy
high-five
lay down
lay all the way down (head too LOL)
speak

My biggest complaint is she gets stupid hyper whenever she sees someone new. My daughter just got a new hamster and she the dog goes nuts over it. She'll sit and whine beside the cage just hoping it will come out of its house so she can see it. Here she is monitoring the hamster's activities:

MJ don't use rawhide, will literally kill your pup. If you have a dog that chews on them for weeks your OK, if your dog goes thru one in a day or close to that keep them away.
You can try NylaBone, see if they are being consumed as fast if so they won't work either and you will have to find a chew toy that she can chew but not consume, some of the hard rubber kinds will work as long as she is not chewing thru them too. If so get them away as they would be worse than the rawhide.
