key switch and gauge power supply usually supplied thru the engine harness and is independant of the boat harness, it keeps from High load sources from interfearing with the engine controlls during start up. I'd have to agree about the blue sea system, while it is nice, its a little more complicated than needed. I wired up mine with two batteries connected thru a standard 1 all 2 off switch. I did wire my bilge pump auto switch straight to battery 1, so incase I leave the boat in the water, or if I have an electrical issue, the auto float switch is wired in the most direct, simplest way, independant of the rest of the system
