you are right about that....what is a great thing that actually occured and it was a light under the outboard mfg's a@@ was when the emmision regulations standards started to get tough around 97 ish. at that time people were all saying who cares if this new fancy fuel injection engine gets twice the fuel and oil economy because fuel is 1.75 a gal . so most people kept on running the old carb's or bought new carbed becuase of price. well now its 2008 and fuel is finding its way to 4.00 gal and guess what except for the initial 1k or 2k more for the new engines your fuel consumption is about the same as it was in 97 with a carb engine. that is the only thing that the boating industry has done together collectively and it wasnt even them that did it. it was the govt, talk about the irony there.
