I know he said he bought it 10-06, had a tune-up done in 11-06, put it in a lake 1 time and parked it in 11-06. I'm thinking his $2000 opening bid is about right for a reasoneable offer. He was also fairly misleading in his description about it conveniently disclosing how long it has been since it ran. The boat looked in overall good shape.

What do you guys think about the transom where it goes inward under the gimbal? I haven't had much experience with I/O transoms. I just know I have the worst luck with finding boats with bad transoms.

Well you are right I like them boats!! and if I could have found a solid one I would have it today!

Boat looks good!! as for the transom, my V was pushed in a little and it was nothing more then compression from the gimble housing, when I did the conversion I drilled it and it was dark wood but solid.

$4000 is high, and I would try to get lower, but it all comes down to how bad you want it!! You know already how hard they are to find, and you have the power already so its just your time re powering and whats that worth to you? I find I may spend a lot of time on stuff fixing but not cash, and I work cheap.

But he did just pass on $3100 on ebay?? Maybe he will be different when he has to move and its got to go??

Its a tough decision!! I know I have been there and done that!! I payed $4K for the Sea Ox and I added another motor to it also!! But I love the hull and when its done she will be great! New hard top be here 3 weeks!

Good Luck Pal!

they are great boats, there are a couple more around here, I'll see if any "project" ones are up for sale

It currently has an 888 that is not in the best of shape. It is splitting in the propshaft support area from corrosion around the internal retaining nut. So it isn't going to bring much to start with, let alone there is a guy on craigslist that has dropped his down to $200 and still can't sell it. The $3100 bid was a deadbeat bidder that was a newbie and is now no longer a registered user with a -3 feedback. I don't think the bidding would have passed $2K if his description was accurate. I'll give him a call tommorrow and try haggling with him some.

And you should have seen the boat he was quoting me that he seen for $45K. It was a complete restore with EMRON paint, bracket and twin 225 OPTI's under factory warranty with an aluminum trailer to boot ready to go.

Ferm I have no experience with these boats, or the I/O. A couple of thoughts though.
After you repair or replace what you know to be wrong, and throw in a doozy or two you did not expect, will you have a boat that makes you smile ear to ear?
If so go for it. Sometimes we set a money point in our heads that just is not going to get us where we want to be, and in the end we let something slip away and regret it later.
I think all men have done this.

So, how much does your finished product appeal to you?
Does it tickle your fancy my friend?
