Ive got oak flooring in a couple of rooms. my wife lightly sanded and used polyurethane (minwax ) high gloss i think and they look like new. It holds up very good IMHO! The last time we coated them was at least 10-15 years ago. Iused Captains Marine Spar varnish on our oak kitchen table, it is super tough. Dont think Id use it on floors though, its really costly.

I use to do them years ago and I got what the paint store told me to use. That was 20 years ago and can't tell you what it was.
I did some 40 floors with it but I have no way of telling you how they lasted?? But I can say this, If you have a nicely kept house that is sweeped or Vacuumed daily then go with the gloss!! If you have a home like me that is what I call lived in with shoes allowed and stuff then go with satin so the scratches don't show to easy!! Sand and dirt is your Enemy!
